Chinese Translation
Chinese, where every character carries meaning.
Chinese connects more than a billion people across different markets, writing systems and linguistic environments. Etranslation provides Chinese translation, localization, interpretation and multilingual services adapted to Simplified and Traditional Chinese audiences.
Chinese localization is about context.
“Chinese” is not a single localization target. Language services may need to distinguish between Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese, as well as regional conventions in Mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and other Chinese-speaking communities.
Terminology, punctuation, date formats, currency, user-interface conventions and cultural references can all affect how natural a localized product feels.
Professional Chinese localization therefore considers both the language and the market in which the content will be consumed.
Chinese language environments
Chinese uses a character-based writing system, while spoken varieties can differ substantially in pronunciation and vocabulary.
- Mandarin · 普通话 / 國語
- Simplified Chinese · zh-CN
- Traditional Chinese · zh-TW
- Traditional Chinese · zh-HK
- Regional Chinese varieties
- Market-specific terminology and conventions
One character can tell a story.
“你好” (nǐ hǎo) means “hello,” while “谢谢” (xièxie) means “thank you.” Mandarin pronunciation uses four main lexical tones, plus a neutral tone in certain contexts, so pronunciation can change meaning.
Chinese characters also carry semantic information in ways that alphabetic writing systems generally do not. This makes terminology management, typography and character selection especially important in localization.
A professional Chinese workflow must therefore account for the target market, writing system, terminology and user expectations rather than treating all Chinese content as interchangeable.
